FAQs

Like to Join us?

If you enjoy a variety of music and the opportunity to perform in concerts and other events, you will find this with Surrey Heath Singers together with a friendly atmosphere and regular social events.

New singers are always welcome – just come along on a Monday evening (except bank holidays) before 7.30 p.m. and try us out.

Where do we rehearse?

You will find us in St Peter’s Church, Frimley. We occasionally rehearse elsewhere but you will be given notice of this.

When do we rehearse?

Rehearsals are on Monday evenings from 7.30 pm. to 9.30 pm. plus an extra rehearsal shortly before each concert on an evening to be decided – but which you will have good notice of.  See the Members page for our current rehearsal schedule.

Do I have to audition?

No – we do not hold formal auditions to join the choir.  You are welcome to try us out for two or three weeks to see if we are right for you before making a commitment to join.

What experience do I need?

Anyone who has an interest in singing can join. All voices are welcome and like most choirs, we are particularly keen to grow our Tenor and Bass section.

If you have previous experience of choral singing we will, obviously, be delighted but neither experience nor the ability to sight-read music is a prerequisite to membership as support will be available.  We ask for your enthusiasm, a keen desire to sing and a willingness to work hard as well as have fun!

How much is the subscription?

The subscription (in 2023) is £150 per annum (which works out to be less than £5.00 per evening) and includes the hire of music scores. We offer a termly payment scheme to anyone who may find it difficult to pay the full amount in one go.

You will pay a reduced amount if you join part-way through the season.  After that, subscriptions are then for the full year and there is no reduction if you drop out of a term or concert.

How do I get the music?

Our Librarian provides the music scores and these are usually distributed on the first Monday of a new term and must be handed back after each concert. Should you prefer to purchase your own copy of the music, our Librarian or Music Director will advise you of the correct edition.

What do I wear for a concert?

Women: Long black skirt or smart black trousers and a plain black long-sleeved top. This is accessorised according to the concert with our choir colours.

Men: Dinner suit and bow tie in black or colour to be advised according to the concert.  For less formal concerts men wear a black open-neck shirt and black trousers.

Where do concerts take place?

Most of our concerts take place in St Peter’s Church in Frimley or in High Cross Church in Camberley, but we have also sung in Guildford Cathedral and the Royal Military Academy in joint concerts with other local choirs.

What do I do next?

Contact our Membership Administrator to find out more and to let us know you are coming so we look out for you – or simply turn up on Monday evening.
